To commemorate International Women’s Day, the Institute of Global Politics (IGP)’s Women’s Initiative  convened leading policymakers and advocates from around the world to release a new report, Accelerating Efforts to End Child Marriage

Efforts to keep girls in school and other actions to reduce child marriage are being disrupted by economic shocks, cutbacks in global humanitarian assistance, retrenchment in women’s rights and the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to researchers and experts in international development.

The Women’s Initiative at Columbia SIPA’s Institute of Global Politics (IGP), together with the Center for Global Development (CGD), has released a new report titled Accelerating Efforts to End Child Marriage.

IGP hosted a Rapid Response webinar analyzing the unprecedented US–Israeli strikes on Iran, unpacking the latest developments, from shifts in regional power dynamics and uncertainty in Tehran to broader implications for nuclear diplomacy, global economic markets, and security across the Gulf.

In a wide-ranging conversation hosted by Columbia SIPA’s Institute of Global Politics, Mona Lena Krook discussed her new book, Elect Women for a Change: The Path to Gender Parity in Politics, which examines how to achieve greater gender parity in politics.

IGP’s Women’s Initiative hosted the Gambian human rights activist Jaha Dukureh to discuss child marriage and the future of women’s rights, drawing on her experience as a survivor of child marriage.

The task force, which is composed of thought leaders with distinguished backgrounds in government, civil society, and the private sector, will be chaired by Secretary Jacob J. Lew and Edward Fishman.

IGP hosted legal scholars Thomas H. Lee and Gillian Metzger for a discussion on the shifting nature and scope of US presidential power.

IGP hosted a conversation with US and European experts about the state of negotiations to end the war, the strategic implications of this diplomatic process, and the assistance required for Ukraine rebuild and fortify itself.
